Yosemite
People from all over the world travel to California to see the wonders of Yosemite National Park, which include the famous El Capitan and Half Dome formations. This is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Yet 95% of what Yosemite has to offer is rarely seen by tourists who stick to just 'the valley' and don't get out of their cars. This other 95% is only accessible by hiking trails for a reason – it is a designated wilderness area to protect the plants and animals of this unique region. Let Go Adventure show you what Yosemite has to offer.
Located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Yosemite is one of the largest and most intact habitat protection areas for wildlife in the region. Elevations range from 2,127 to 13,114 feet and contain a large variety of vegetation zones which include lower and upper montane forests, subalpine, and alpine zones. Yosemite contains more than 20% of the plant species that are found in California, including rare plants, rare local geologic formations, and unique soils.
And then there is the geology! Glaciers once covered the region in thicknesses up to 4,000 feet deep. These massive glaciers carved out and sculpted the U-shaped valley that attracts millions of visitors each year. Besides Yosemite Valley, there are other destinations within Yosemite, like Hetch Hetchy and Tuolumne Meadows, where glacial action also created breathtaking landscapes.
