Scenic, eclectic Seattle, the San Juan Islands, and Olympic National Park give you so many opportunities to explore urban and wilderness environments, land and sea, and rainforest and mountains. Orca whales, bald eagles, black bears, and berry picking! In Seattle, you can check out outside fish and food markets, great cuisine, and for the adults, some of the best coffee in the USA.
ACTIVITIES
Take a ferry to the San Juan Islands for a 3-day sea kayaking journey in one of Washington's most beautiful natural areas, full of rolling hills and amazing ocean views. The San Juans are home to three distinct pods, or family groups, of Orca whales and if our timing is right, we might get a very close-up look. We will also explore the intertidal zones for smaller sea life and some of the biggest sea stars you have ever seen. Bald Eagles can be spotted frequently in between paddle strokes.
Explore Olympic National Park by foot. This expansive park is home to the only temperate rainforest in the United States. Previous trip participants have seen black bears and several very friendly deer while trekking through lush green forests. Also, if you time it right, you can forage for wild blackberries and huckleberries all the way to your campsite! Within Olympic National Park, seize the opportunity to hike to Anderson Pass and see a rapidly disappearing Glacier before it's too late. Swim in an invigorating river everyday to relax and soak your hard working feet while enjoying views of the surrounding mountain tops.
You can end your journey in Seattle with some urban adventuring at Pikes Fish Market and experiencing some true Seattle culture and food before heading back home.
Spend a day at the Makah Museum in Neah Bay (the most northwestern point in North America). Immerse yourself in traditional crafts, such a bracelet making andnd then take a tour of the museum to learn the rich culture of the Makah people.
